What is Wakesurfing?
Wakesurfing has been around for many years. It started with people using regular surfboards to surf behind a boat with/or without a rope. As the sport started gaining popularity, companies began designing new boards specifically made for wakesurfing. These boards were thinner and heavier and would be able to stay in the wake much easier than a traditional surf board.
With much experimentation, water sports enthusiasts began to weigh their boats down with water sacs and solid weights(which sometimes proved disastrous) in order to create larger wakes on one side of the boat, thus creating a monstrous wake on which to surf on. Surfers would get up using traditional means as the boat would pull them onto/into the wave by the rope and then when they were balanced on the wave they would throw the rope into the boat and surf on the wave ropeless.
Wakesurfing is a great family sport because there is less potential for injury for mature water sports enthusiasts (a.k.a. old folks who like to waterski/wakeboard) and it can be a relaxing day out on the lake. Wakesurfing also appeals to the younger folks who want to learn to do tricks on the waves and ride agressively up the face of the wakes, etc. Wakesurfing is emerging as one of the fastest growing water sports and people are getting addicted to "the feeling only a surfer knows".
This video is designed to introduce you to the sport of Wakesurfing and to show you step by step what you need to know in order to safely get up on the wave and wakesurf.
